Detailed description

Stone Canyon Golf Course is a private 18-hole golf course located in Oro Valley about 20 miles north of Tucson, Arizona.

The course first opened for play in 2000. The course was designed by Jay Morrish.

The course butts up against the Tortolita Mountains, The landscape on which the course was placed includes desert terrain, hillside, and boulder filled canyons. The desert terrain has a large collection of old growth saguaro cactus'. The terrain sets up for a dramatic golf course that features exhilarating cliff-side tee shots, impressive landscaping, and stunning views. The playing corridors are generous though severely off-center shots will be lost to the extreme desert terrain. The layout is far from traditional. Golfers who like adventure style golf through extreme terrain will love the course.

#6, a 145 yard par-3 was built at a reported cost of $2 million dollars. It is the signature hole at Stone Canyon. The hole requires an uphill drive to the green. The hole is framed by a pond in front that is fed by a series of rock waterfalls that start on the left and cascade down. Boulders and mature saguaro cactus' canvas the hill on the right side of the green. The front of the green slopes steeply towards a large bunker. Essentially, if your tee shot doesn't land on the green, in the bunker, or short on the fairway, you will either be in the pond or bouncing off a boulder.
