Detailed description

Vermilion Oaks Golf Course, previously named Abbeville Country Club, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Abbeville, Louisiana.

The course first opened for play in 1927. The course was completely renovated from nine holes to eighteen in 1996. The course was designed by Frank A. Godchaugx.

In April of 2015, the Broussard family purchased the Abbeville Country Club and re-established it as Vermilion Oaks.

The Course is located twenty miles from the Gulf of Mexico, so wind is a major factor in club selection. Water hazards come into play on eleven holes, and fifty young trees have been planted around the greens and fairways. The greens are undulating and average approximately 4,000 square feet. The club is open to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and all day Friday.

The course plays to a par-72 and maximum 9-hole distance of 6,149 yards. The course rating is 75.0 with a slope rating of 125.

Blue tees: par-72, 6,149 yards, 75.0 / 125

White tees: par-72, 5,651 yards, 66.0 / 109

Red tees: par-72, 4,995 yards, 67.0 / 103

The course closed October 2017.

The club located outside the city limits closed October 2017 and was put on the market for $1.8 million. Before it closed, it was the only place to play golf in Vermilion Parish, which includes Abbeville.
