Detailed description

Katahdin Country Club is a public 9-hole golf course located in Milo, Maine.

The course first opened in 1930. The course was designed by Larry H. Striley.

Par for the course is 34 for men and 36 for women. The course plays to 2,968 for men and 2,700 yards for women. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 519 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 150 yards from the back tees.

The course closed in 2020.

Owner/Operator Rick Gerrish said he had been considering closing the facility for the last two or three years. He agreed that the potential negative impact of the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic on this year’s prospects for the course may have been the last straw.

“Probably,” he said. “I’ve been thinking about it anyway and just decided it was time.”

The announced permanent closing came after Maine Gov. Janet Mills issued an executive order related to the COVID-19 crisis that, in part, added golf courses to the list of non-essential businesses that must remain closed until May 1, 2020
