Detailed description

Franklin D. Roosevelt Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

FDR was created as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in the 1930's to become League Island Golf Course. The course first opened for play in 1936. The course architect was Ed Clarey.

Built in a swamp on top of construction debris from the Broad Street Subway line expansion, the course suffered major issues from flooding over the years. FDR had served as the home of Philadelphia’s First Tee program.

Blue tees: par-69, 6,004 yards
White tees: par-69, 5,720 yards
Red (W) tees: par-69, 5,406 yards

The course closed October 31, 2019.

In a statement on its website, the club said the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department decided to close the public course because it was “no longer sustainable due to frequent flooding and unprofitable operations.”
