Detailed description

Black Knight Country Club, is a Private, 9 hole golf course located in Beckley, West Virginia.

Black Knight Country Club first opened for play in 1924. Ferdinand Garbin redesigned the course in 1986.

The course has narrow, hilly, undulating, tree-lined fairways. The greens are relatively flat.   There are additional sets of tees that can be used when playing a double loop eighteen hole round.

The course plays to a 9-hole par of 36 and maximum 9-hole distance of 3,175 yards.

Closed December 2017

The club was bought in 2011 by Jim Justice, who also owns The Greenbrier and another resort in the state and was elected as West Virginia’s Governor in 2016. Justice said he had invested close to $5 million in Black Knight but had to close it because of dwindling membership, competition from newer clubs and lack of an 18-hole golf course. “It just breaks your heart [to close], but at the same time, at some point in time it will break your wallet, too,”
