Detailed description

Dothan National, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Dothan, Alabama.

Formerly known as Admiral Benbow Olympia Spa & Golf Resort, this course First opened for play in 1968. The course was designed by Robert Simmons. An extensive renovation/update of the course was finished in 2001.

Water comes into play on half of the holes and with more than 50 bunkers (many of them quite large), Dothan is a a good test for golfers of any skill level.

There are five sets of tees, and the course plays as a par-73 from the 7,504-yard back tees. The most challenging hole is the 10th, a 450- to 570-yard par-5 that crosses a lake to a green protected right by the lake and left by a large bunker. Trees that line the right side make it nearly impossible to reach in two, and big hitters can reach the lake off the tee.

The 17th is a challenging downhill par-4 that requires an approach shot over water. There's not much land between the green and the lake to keep short approaches from rolling back into the water.

The second and eighth holes are fun little par-4s. The second is a sharp dogleg right, while the eighth is a sharp dogleg in the other direction. A tee shot that clears the trees in either dogleg will leave you a short chipshot into the green.

The greens don‚t have much undulation, but there are a lot of subtle breaks.

This par 72 course has a 75.8 course rating and a slope rating of 129.
