Detailed description

Palo Duro Creek Golf Course is a Semi-Private, 18-hole golf course in Nogales, Arizona.

Palo Duro Creek Golf Course first opened for play in 1963. Red Lawrence designed the course.

Palo Duro Creek Golf Course reopened on February 20, 2024, after having been closed for 14 years.

The Palo Duro Creek Golf Course is laid out in desert canyons and foothills and finishes with three holes bordering one of Arizona's few natural wetlands. The course has classic high desert vegetation. The front nine is called the Canyon Course (for Portrero Canyon), and the back is called the Lakes Course (with water coming into play on five holes). Both boast panoramic views of the Santa Rita and San Cayetano Mountains.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,923 yards. From the forward tees, the course plays to 5,701 yards. The longest hole on the course is #5, a par-5 that plays 573 yards. The shortest holes on the course are # 5 and & 13; par-3's play to 182 yards from the back tees.

The course closed in 2009.

The city has owned the Palo Duro property, including the golf course, swimming pool, and clubhouse, since 1976, when it bought the property for the underground Potrero well system.

The city of Nogales bought the Potrero well system in 1976. The purchase included the golf course, clubhouse, and swimming pool – all of which became a financial burden for the city and led to a 99-year lease to free the city of that responsibility in 1996.

Following disputes with the leader, the city terminated the lease, assumed control of the property, and closed the course. 14 years later, the course has been reopened by the city.
