Shadow Mountain Golf Course first opened for play in 1960.
The course plays to a par of 72 and a maximum distance of 6,632 yards for a course ranking of 71.1 and a slope ranking of 126. Water comes into play on a few holes, including #2, a 142-yard, par 3, requiring a forced carry over a pond.
Shadow Mountain Golf Course is surrounded by the village of Sunsites, an attractive retirement community of 1,500 people in southeast Arizona. Sunsites is located on State Route 191, 15 miles south of Interstate 10 between Willcox and Douglas in the Sulphur Springs Valley. Sunsites lies 65 miles southeast of Tucson and sits at an elevation of 4,500 feet with spectacular views of the Cochise Stronghold, Dragoon and Chiricahua Mountains.

The course has had different owners and has opened and closed several times in the past few years. The course last closed in 2014 and remains closed at this time.
