Detailed description

Alhambra Municipal Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Alhambra, California.

Alhambra Golf Course first opened for play in 1956. The course, at that time 9 holes, was designed by William F. Bell. Algie Pulley added nine new holes and redesigned the course in 1977.

Despite its shorter-than-average length of 5,159 yards it is a regulation par 70 golf course. This unique course has three lakes and narrow fairways that will test the most advanced player's skills while accommodating the beginning player without the intimidating length of most championship golf courses. However, the design of this course will be a good test for any serious golfer. There is plenty of water and out-of-bounds that will punish you for erratic shots, especially off the tee. Because of the narrow fairways, course management is much more important than distance. This is a great course for short, accurate players to challenge friends who are long hitters.

Alhambra offers two distinct nine holes of golf. The front nine is a flat parks-land type course with tree lined fairways. At par 36 it is well balanced with two par 5's and two par 3's. After warming up on the front nine, the back nine will require use of every club in the bag to negotiate its rolling terrain and precisely placed sand bunkers. The signature hole is the par five 16th which offers a challenging tee shot over water to reach the fairway!

The Alhambra Golf facility features the only three story, night-lit driving range in the state.

Blue tees: par-70, 5,159 yards, course rating 64.3, slope rating 107.

White tees: par-70, 4,873 yards, course rating 63.1, slope rating 102.

Red tees: par-71, 4,535 yards, course rating 65.2, slope rating 111.

Alhambra is a nicely kept course that is great for all levels. The pace has been great every time I've played, which is a refreshing relief on a Sunday morning. It's a great value.

I play Alhambra frequently. It is an excellent course for a practice round in preparation to play anywhere.

Although the course is short, some par fours are reachable from the tee, you must execute a variety of shots to score well.

The front side is tight, but if you hit the ball straight you are rewarded with your lowest scores. If you are not straight from the tee or the fairways, you will be embarrased with your score on such a short course.

The back side is hilly and requires the savvy for hitting uphill, downhill and sidehill lies.

The practice facility ranks with the very best in the Los Angeles area. The greens are well kept for a public course where players often do not do their important part of repairing ball marks.

The staff are effective, couteous and friendly.

I recommend this course for a pleasant stress free round of golf.
