Detailed description

Golf Club At Roddy Ranch, The, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Antioch, California.

Roddy Ranch Golf Club facility first opened for play in 2000. The course was designed by J. Michael Poellot.

Carved from a 2000-acre working cattle ranch, Roddy Ranch Golf Club's 235 acres offer a true links-style layout over exquisite landscape. Undulating greens and strategically placed bunkers challenge every aspect of your short game.

Elevated tees and greens not only bring beautiful views, but demand precision play while teeing off from the tips. Gold and silver tees still require a heightened level of precision, but allow players to take advantage of wider areas in fairways and shorter approach shots.

From the back tees, the par-72 course measures 7,024 yards. The course rating is 74.5 and the slope rating is 136.

Black tees: 7,024 yards, 74.5/136. Gold tees: 6,529 yards, 72.6/134. Men's Silver tees: 6,043 yards, 70.45/130. Women's Silver tees: 5,990 yards, 75.4/129. Women's Rust: 5,390 yards, 71.7/120.

The course closed August 11, 2016, citing the high cost of irrigation as a major factor that made the course no longer economically sustainable.

I play Roddy probably 4-6 x year. Love the Groupon deals for $100 foursomes, as this used to be a $75 course.

The course is definitely showing signs of the greater volume of rounds though, as conditions seem to get a little worse each time I play.

We played at noon on a Saturday. It took 2 hours to get to the 7th tee, so I called the shop as we hadn't seen a single marshal on the course. Sure enough, five minutes later someone came by to tell us it was slow. That was it, no reason why, not that they were trying to speed up the pace of play ahead.

We ended up finishing a little before 6pm - a great time to grab a bar snack and beverage. Not a chance as the clubhouse was all closed up. Very disappointing as we wanted to have a drink, settle our bets and watch a little of the Giants WS game before heading out.

I'll definitely go back to Roddy, I enjoy the layout of the course, and it offers good value, but the most recent experience there was a definite disappointment.

An absolutely stupendous experience. From the pro shop with Mike who was very helpful and cordial. To Melissa in the saloon Roddy ranch is great. The value, friendliness of the staff ranked incredibly high with me. The pace of play was good and rusty was really understanding our difficulties with our cart. Kudos roddy ranch. By the way great green complexes.

They sent me an e-mail expressing gratitude for past play and our foursome got to play for 18 bucks with cart at 12:24. When we drove up the parking lot was nearly full and I'm thinking uh oh five hour round or more, but we played in about four forty-five not too bad because the group ahead of us was struggling. Not a course for twenty+ handicaps. Just a great layout with lots of imagination, great par fives, and one par three that is one of the best in California. Friendly staff and it was busy, so hats off to them. Definitely worth the hour drive from San Francisco and get some sunshine.

I have played Roddy many, many times. It is the best bargain and one of the most challenging courses in the East Bay.

Teed off at 7:18 AM - foursome - indexes of 5.6, 7.4, 7.2 and 4.5 all good players - thought we would have a good challenge - first time at this course. BRUTALLY SLOW - five hours and five minutes - on the card it states that marshalls will ensure a good pace of play - BRUTALLY SLOW - TOOK ALL THE FUN OUT - I can't imagine what it is like later in the day. Too bad because I liked the course - hard to stop the ball on the quick greens - not for poor ballstrikers. Management should guaranty a 4:15 round or give a free coupon for future play. Did I mention the pace was BRUTALLY SLOW ?

Play Roddy Ranch about 6 times a year. Takes a little over an hour for me to get to, but worth the drive. Great staff. Fast and true greens. Home to some of the best Senior Scratch golfers in NorCal. Tee lengths for all levels of golfers. Tough track, but that is what it is suppose to be. Fair. Not your hit and giggle muni. Bring your game and havefun!

I love Roddy Ranch. It poses so many challenges to all levels of golfers. Yes it gets windy and yes the greens are fast but that is part of the fun and experience of this awesome facility. The staff is equally impressive with their knowledge and take the time to answer all questions. Plus they are always smiling and that makes it even nicer. I recommend this course as top shelf. Four star Golf Digest rating come on how can you go wrong. Keep up the great work Roddy Ranch and I am looking forward to many more outings here.

Fun layout. I've been playing here several time a year since it opened. Fairways are much better than they used to be and its a great layout. Greens are very hard, can be very difficult to land the green and stay on. Can also be extremely windy.

This is a great layout but the ownership group is financially unstable and they overbook it every chance they get. The last time I played here I left with 3 holes to play. After 5 hours. Did I say this place reaks with oopportunity because it is such a great layout with a ton of updside? Shame really because it is a really nice course.

Hard course, but fun. Great layout. They have some good weekday rates. At a discounted price, this course is a real bargain. It's a long drive from Sacramento, but I've played here 3 times this year. Be sure to check the weather conditions; one of our rounds here the wind was blowing 35-45 mph!!

I do not bring my friends that slice or hook to this course. The rough is VERY unfriendly here. The greens are super fast. Definitely a course for the strategic player. Several challenging holes surrounded by rolling hills and old oak trees. This course rocks!

I am a mediocre golfer who doesn't get to play to much. This course is too hard for me. Also, while I did find a coupon to save, and that is the reason we played it, the regular price is too high compared to other courses in the general vicinity that I like more.

Con: Does not allow push-carts: carry your bag or golf cart only. FYI: Course is in a geographic location that gets a lot of constant, strong wind.

One of four courses on a stretch of road, all are quite nice. I had played here before. I took my buddies telling them they would enjoy the course, and they did. On this day, the course did overbook, so the round was extremely long. At one point, the marshall drove by us waiting on the tee and commented on the fact there were five groups on the hole.

Slow play & the greens are terrible - dented, beat and very bumpy. Nice course but greens spoil it.

We arrived with at 1:45 for a 2:00 tee time and ended up waiting until 3:10 before we actually teed off. There were lots of people waiting ahead of us and plenty of complaints. (The main problem was that they ran out of Golf Carts). The Marshall did give us a couple of range tokens, but the range is too far from the course to walk comfortably. By the time we teed off, the wind kicked up to 20-30 mph and it made an already difficult course brutal. It is a nice course in general though, but I do not recommend afternoon play.

I can't understand why more people don't play out here. This is the best course within 45 miles and never gets boring. Dramatic elevation changes, shotmakers course and a fun place to let your driver rip. They've never built a clubhouse and that's a drawback, but the course more than makes up for it. Great bargains to be had here.

This course is one of the best bargains in the Bay Area. It's challenging but fair. All the holes are different. It can get windy but usually not bad. Very fair pricing, especially for Seniors.

The course was in good shape and the layout save for one hole is excellent. Challenging and at the same time fun to play. Their 2 drawbacks are not having a real clubhouse (the drink cart does make the rounds often) and high weekend rates. It was hot during the day we played so the water barrels were very welcome as was the drink cart. There are 3 other courses w/in 5 mi and this would be the top choice among the 4 for golf. Food and drink can be had at the other course's clubhouse.
