La Costa Resort & Spa is a Resort, 36 hole golf course facility located in Carlsbad, California. The facility has two championship golf courses. They are The La Costa Champions Golf Course and The La Costa South Golf Course.
Both courses are similar in design. The fairways are generous, but scattered with trees. The elevated greens putt true and are well bunkered (79 bunkers Champions Course / 84 bunkers South Course). Both courses have water hazards coming into play (9 water hazards Champions Course / 12 water hazards South Course). The terrain is flat and easy to walk; however, you must be accompanied by a caddie if you choose to walk.
The La Costa Golf Course first opened for play in 1964. The course was designed by Dick Wilson. Nine new holes were added in 1973 bringing the total to 27 holes. In 1989 a fourth nine was completed. Both the 1973 and 1989 nine hole additions were designed by Joe lee. The front nine on both The La Costa Champions Golf Course and The La Costa North Golf Course and The La Costa South Golf Course were from the original 1964 course Dick Wilson designed course. The back nine on The South Course is the Joe Lee 1973 nine hole addition. The back nine on The Champions Course is the Joe Lee 1989 nine hole addition.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,094 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,939 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 6, a par-5 that plays to 548 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 187 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 6, the 548 yard par-5 challenge is the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 16, a 189 yard par-3.
