Detailed description

Brookside Golf Club is a public 36-hole golf facility located in Pasadena, California. The facility has two 18-hole golf courses, The Brookside 1 Course and The Brookside 2. Course.

The Brookside 1 Course and The Brookside 2. Courses first opened for play in 1928. Both courses were designed by William P. Bell.

Brookside Golf Club is reminiscent of an earlier era. The courses are is steeped in 75 years of golf tradition. Brookside Golf Club's 36 holes are nestled in the golden foothills of Pasadena next to the world famous Rose Bowl. Indeed, the fairways of The Brookside 2 are used for parking for events at the Rose Bowl. The golf courses at Brookside have hosted many major championships including the Los Angeles Open and the National Public Links Championship

The The Brookside 1 Course is the longer of the two courses. It measures 7,037 yards from the back tees and plays to a par of 72 . The course rating is 73.6 and the slope rating is128.

The The Brookside 2 Course is the shorter of the two courses. It measures 6,048 yards from the back tees and plays to a par of 70. The course rating is 68.4 and the slope rating is115.

The unfortunate problem with playing Brookside 1 or 2 is the Rose Bowl Operating Company has turned the fairways into a parking lot for all their events. These include UCLA football, one concert after another and anything else these people can think of to use the course as a parking lot. If you play golf after a UCLA game the course is littered in beer bottle caps, paper and broken glass, not a quality experience, after concerts, the same thing and the annual 4th of July fireworks show. Before making a time to play, check the Rose Bowl event calendar to see if you're playing following one of their events, if so, I would cancel your time and play another local course. You'll be happy you did.

I first played Brookside #2 as a teen-ager, a very long time ago now. Played there twice a week, at least during my Sophomore year of college at Pasadena Community College. I have probably not played there more than a dozen time since then, i.e 1954-55 because I have lived too far away over the intervening years. I enjoyed playing the course again and especially enjoyed shooting an 87--my best round so far this year. E.O. Nay, the name of the course, is, in my opinion, a good course for Seniors who don't hit the ball as far as they used to hit it. The drainage ditch that comes into play on at least 8 holes can be a problem if you don't keep the ball in the fairway. It's primarily a problem for those who hook their shots, though a slice can get you into trouble on three of the holes. I got the Senior Rate, which was $37+ with a cart. That's about $10 more than I usually pay at similar courses in the area, so I think it's a bit overpriced.

Greens were recently airated, so the greens were very bumpy and very high, which made putting almost useless. Short putts forget it, longer putts were better. But we all know you dont play to have longer putts. But that gets done twice a year so you just have to grin and bear it.

Good course -- well maintained and very pleasant. Glad that we could get a starting time, as it's generally full.

Fairways and greens are in top condition. Beautiful views as you walk the course. The green on #12 is too severe...can sometimes slow the pace as people 3 and 4 putt.

Borders Rose Bowl, very convenient. Two courses, not overly difficult.
