Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles

Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles, previously named Ocean Trails Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located on bluffs above the Pacific ocean on the beautiful  Palos Verdes Peninsula in Rancho Palos Verdes, just 30 minutes from downtown Los Angeles.

The Pete Dye designed course was scheduled to open for play in 1999. However, on June 2, 1999  when construction on the $126 million, Pete Dye designed, Ocean Trails Golf Course was within days of opening,  a landslide sent most of the  500 yard par 4 18th hole fairway and green collapsing into the ocean below. Despite insurance coverage (rebuilding and stabilization for the 18th hole was estimated to exceed $20 million alone), the landslide caused the Ocean Trails Golf Course to go into bankruptcy.

In 2002, Donald Trump purchased the course for $27 million with the intention of finishing the repairs bythe summer of 2003. It wasn't until 20 January 2006 that all 18–holes of Trump National Golf Club opened in Los Angeles. During the massive geological stabilization process required under holes 17 and 18, the golf course ( 15-holes) remained open for play.

At a reported final cost of $264 million, at the time of completion Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles was the most expensive golf course ever constructed.

And yes, it's very nice.  There are the stunning ocean views from 17 of the 18 holes. The course is intimidating both  visually and  in playability. Waterfalls frame the first and 17th greens. The par-3 eighth, par-4 ninth and par-4 16th all require "get it right" approach shots around ponds.

The golf course might beat you up, but it does so while pampering you. A posh clubhouse and massive driving range have Trump's imprint all over them. 

The course plays to a par-71. The Black tees play to 7,242 yards. The most forward tees are set at 4,538 yards.
