Trona Golf Course is a Public, 9 hole golf course located a couple of miles north of Trona, California on Valley Wells Road, a right turn off of Trona Rd. Valley Wells is the next paved road pass Airport Road.
Trona Golf Course first opened for play in 1926. The course had been 18-holes (no grass) with oiled greens. The original dirt course, is now covered by an industrial plant building that was built in 1977-1978.
The "new" Trona Golf Course (9 holes) was built with hard work by volunteers with rakes and shovels in 1977. The sand mixed with oil "greens", were sodded with grass in 1981 as an environmental measure.
This nine hole course is very unique in that golfers are trusted to pay the green fees on the honor system. Just put your $5 in the box ar the start of the first tee. The "greens: are small. There is no grass on the fairways.
Golfers are allowed to tee up fairway shots, and are also permitted to bring grass mats to save wear and tear on their clubs. The course is maintained strictly by volunteers. There is an additional set of tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.
The 9 holes play to 2,600 yards and a par-37.
