Detailed description

Black Gold Golf Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in the foothills of Yorba Linda, California. Black Gold is tucked in between the Chino Hills State Park and the Vista Del Verde residential community on the north side of Yorba Linda, off either Yorba Linda Blvd, or Imperial Highway.

The foothills of Yorba Linda provide golfers the chance to discover gold, Black Gold that is. Black Gold Golf Club is an Arthur Hills-designed golf course and its name is a by-product of its location that used to be a Shell Oil Field. The course opened for play in 2001.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,756 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,937 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 18, a par-5 that plays to 535 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 167 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 449 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Black Gold is # 10, a 194 yard par-3.

Black Gold Golf Club is a challenging layout with several water features, including a stunning waterfall off the 18th green, slight elevation changes, rolling hills, and strategic bunkering. The fairways are extremely soft here, sometimes a little wet, and don't get much roll, the greens also hold shots well. On a clear day golfers can view the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island from several points along the course. The 12th teebox provides the best panoramic views, as it is the highest elevation point of any golf course in Orange County.

complete rip off charged a premium fee $115 even though they are going thru a "transition" period. front 9, casual water in every fairway, fairways were mostly, sodded kiykuyu, bare scabby areas or mowed weeds. back 9 had thousands of sq. ft. of bare gur areas, looked like bunkers without sand. filled out comment card, have not received a response.

The fairways are being changed to Kikuya because of the soil conditions. This is the reason for the con for the condition of the course. The greens are lightning fast and break towards Disneyland. The front nine can be classified as "risk and reward". The back nine requires you to keep the ball in the fairway and is vertical. A very challenging course! Outstanding food in the club house. Very friendly and helpful staff in the restaurant and pro shop.

There are three or four par 4's that you cannot drive your cart on. In addition, the back nine is almost impossible to walk because of steep hills. The greens are extremely fast in the late spring and summer months and will not hold long fairway shots. It will take playing two or three times to learn the greens.

I had not played this course in a couple of years and decided to play again since we had gotten a weekday special. Most of the time, the cost is usually more than we are willing to pay. The fairways have deteriated some and more houses have been built around the course. The greens were in pretty good shape. The big knock I have is the fact that we had a 12:30 tee time, but the powers that be there decided to squeeze in 3 5'sums ahead of us, delaying our time and making our round 5 hours and 15 minutes. We BARELY got our round in. Also, I felt bad for the cart girl also having to be the starter as well, and dealing with the large number of people teeing playing that day. Not what you would expect from a supposely up scale course like this. At what we paid, $41, a good deal. But would not paid normal rates for this track. There are courses in just as good a shape for less money elsewhere.

Most fairways are too narrow, with deep brush on all sides. Some trees have aggressive bees in them! Lost many balls - I am a beginner after a few lessons. Many fairways are also closed off from usage with the included carts. Not a good aftertaste.

$81 for an 11:50 tee time on a Friday. No greeting by staff on arrival. Pace of play was fantastic - No pusing from behind, No shoving in front. Greens were true; Fairways in very good condition; Traps were clean and neat....but contained very sand...traps were shallow. Bar and dinning always slightly below average due to staff. Although this day there was a wedding so the bar was off limits. I recommend this course.

Black Gold is a beautiful course set against the foothills. It's easy to get to and is good value for the money. It's a relatively new course that is growing up beautifully.

Played in a tournament which was very well put together by the course staff. Food was excellent and cost for tourney + food $125 per player. They bent over backwards for our group. Great day had by all.

Had aerated greens several weeks prior, but had not filled in the holes since aeration, so very bumpy. Should have allowed for aeration in price ($130). All in all, great course, fair challenge and most of people playing or working were very nice.

The back nine is a little tight for the average player. It is hard to not lose a few balls.

Yorba Linda residents and players club members get the best rates. Players club members are allowed to have one guest at same rate.

Had a great time at this golf course. Challenging but manageable holes. Fairways and greens in very good condition. Views from some of the holes are great. Great golf course all the way around.
