Longboat Key Club & Resort is a Resort, 45 hole golf facility located in Longboat Key, Florida. The facility has the 18-hole Island Side Course and the 27-hole Harbourside Course.
The Harbourside course presents a uniquely different golf experience from the Islandside course. This challenging 27-hole layout features of 3 nine-hole courses designed by Willard Byrd. The Red course is 3,323 yards; the White course is 3,426 yards; and the Blue course is 3,386.
Golf course architect Ron Garl completed a $2-million renovation of our Harbourside Blue Course in January of 2005. Now officially known as the "Blue Heron," Mr. Garl rebuilt the putting surfaces to USGA specs, added new bunkers and chipping areas, and revamped the 580-yard par-5 fifth to create a beautiful peninsula green.
Number 5 on the new Blue Heron, a par-5 - 580 yard challenge could easily be called the signature hole of the entire Harbourside Golf Course. The horseshoe-shaped hole with its peninsula green features water the entire length – water which must be crossed twice. This hole has it all - length, water, sand and beauty. The player must hit three good golf shots in a row to avoid all of the trouble that awaits.
Bordering Sarasota Bay, the Harbourside course plays through stands of oak, sabal palm, fiddleleaf palm, Washingtonian palm, fig, palmetto and southern pine. Tree-lined fairways and swirling winds put a premium on shot-making and course strategy.
