Glen Arven Country Club

Glen Arven Country Club is a Private 18 holes golf course  located in Thomasville, Georgia.

Glen Arven Country Club first opened for play in 1892 with 9-holes. No one knows definitively who laid down the first nine holes at Glen Arven, but the United States Golf Association’s Official Golf Guide for 1900 reports that Willie Stark from New Jersey and St. Andrews, Scotland, laid out the Old Course as it existed in December 1896. The course was re-designed by Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek in 1929.

Glen Arven is the oldest golf course in Georgia. The USGA has recognized Glen Arven as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S.  

It is a very historical course with pictures in the clubhouse of President Eisenhower playing during one of his trips to Thomasville. Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson and many other golf legends walked its fairways during the late 1930's when Glen Arven was a stop on the then fledgling PGA tour. 

The terrain is hilly, and the fairways have many old, large pine trees lining them.  The course has a bit of everything including elevated tees, tree-lined fairways, water, drives that require a draw or a fade, some target shots, and two holes where the long hitter can reach the par 5's in two shots.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,531 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,292 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 528 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 154 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 7, a 528-yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 16, a 154 yard par-3.
