Detailed description

Mauna Lani Resort, is a Resort, 36 hole golf facility located in KAMUELA, Hawaii. The facility has two golf courses, The North Course and The South Course.

Mauna Lani Resort first opened a golf course for play in 1981. It was designed by Homer Flint and Raymond Cain. Originally opened in 1981 as a single course, the course was halved 10 years later (1991), with each half receiving a new nine designed by Robin Nelson. Thus was born the South Course and The North Course.

Mauna Lani Resort South Course, renown as the former home to the annual Senior Skins Game from 1990 - 2000, snakes through the stark, rugged a'a lava of the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow. The challenging South course offers the golfera panorama of mountain and ocean views.

Primarily because of the ocean holes, the South course nudges out the North course in popularity.. Both courses sit on black lava formations which set of their emerald fairways. But the South course goes has the added wow factor of the ocean holes. The South Course’s # 7, a downhill par 3 with water crashing onto ocean cliffs beside you, 13, another coastline hole, with the ancient Fisherman's Trail running behind the green, and then 15, The South Course’s signature hole, # 15, one of the most photographed golf holes are memories you will have for a lifetime after playing this course.

The North course, all inland, suffers only by comparison the South Course. The North Course plays longer, 6,601 yards from the blues, versus 6,436 on the South course. It's a bit more difficult as well, with a course and slope rating of 72.6/131 from the blues, compared to 70.5/128 for the South Course.

Several lakes bring water into play on the North Course. # 17 is The North Course’s signature, a par 3 that features a horseshoe amphitheatre of lava that frames the green

Mauna Lani Resort's two championship golf courses, Mauna Lani North and South, offer a challenging experience to novice and professional golf enthusiasts alike. Mauna Lani has received Golf Magazine's Gold Medal Award every year since 1988 and was host to the Senior Skins Golf Game for 11 years. The courses are masterpieces of design, each strikingly different, yet equally challenging. Each course is a world apart geographically, and in playing experience.
