The Wichita City Council approved the Auburn Hills project in December 1996. Construction on the course began in the fall of 1998, with the course completed in the fall of 2000. The clubhouse was started in 2000 and completed in early 2001.
The course represents a public/private partnership, with the planned development of nearly 800 houses surrounding the course.
Dye Designs, International, based in Denver, Colorado, designed the course. The company is led by Perry Dye, who spearheaded the design work at Auburn Hills. The third-generation firm has designed over 200 courses throughout the world.
The course challenges you with 62 sand traps and 14 lakes. The golf course was designed with five sets of tees per hole to offer everyone an opportunity to play to their skill levels. The course features Bentgrass Greens that average 7500 sq ft., Zoysia grass fairways, and Bermuda grass roughs and tees.
