"I put everything I had into it and lost everything I had," said developer Dan Klaffer. "I'm totally broke." Klaffer's finances are in shambles. His house was sold at the courthouse and records at the Circuit Court Clerk's Office show he has judgments totaling more than $2.1 million pending against him. According to the lawsuits filed against Klaffer, the land in question totals about 126 acres that includes a nine-hole golf course, land set aside for another nine holes, a club house and 84 lots, some of which already have been sold and had houses erected on them.
The banks will most likely buy the golf course when it is put up for sale in order to protect their interests. Klaffer hopes the sale can pay off his creditors, and leave some money left over for him. "The subdivision and the golf course the way they are are worth a whole lot more than what is owed," he said.
