Mallard Cove Golf Course, CLOSED 2021

Mallard Cove Golf Course is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Mallard Cove Golf Course first opened for play in 1976. The course was designed by James A. Wall. It was later redesigned/rennovated by Kevin Tucker.

The course has 25 large bunkers and water hazards on 12 of the 18 holes. This course's fairways are wide open and rolling. The greens are very undulating and large. The front nine is more wide open than the back nine. The back nine requires more precise tee shots due to the narrower, tree-lined fairways. There are sand bunkers on every hole except #1.

In 2005, Hurricane Rita damaged the clubhouse beyond repair. A new clubhouse opened in July of 2009. The cost of this 11,500 sq. ft project exceeded $1.7 million. It is a grand structure for a municipal golf facility that features a southern flavor with a craftsman style. Guest lockers are available at low daily rates if you want to bring a change of clothes and a shower towel with you.

Mallard Cove Golf Course plays to 6,903 yards from the tips for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.4 with a slope rating of 125.

The course closed in 2021.

Mallard Cove golf course was located adjacent to the Chennault airfield in Lake Charles. It was closed so the airfield could acquire the property with provisions for "the course" to be relocated.

The new Mallard Cove Golf Course has been under construction for several years in East Lake Charles and is now open to the public.

The new replacement course was designed by Jeff Blume and has been renamed the Mallard Golf Club. It's a Scottish links-style golf course.
