There are four nine hole courses here that are played as separate nines. The courses were cut out of the woods and both the courses and the woods are home to a variety of wildlife. The White Course is the most challenging because of the thick tree-lined fairways, sand bunkers and the water hazards that come into play on several holes. The Maize Course was built on flat terrain and has open fairways. This is a great course for beginners. The Blue and White courses are the intermediate courses. There are streams and ponds that come into play on all four courses, and the terrain varies in undulation.
Bill Newcomb and Bruce Matthews both designed a number of holes at Hickory Hills. Over the years the rerouting of layouts has merged designer holes among the four nine hole courses.
