Detailed description

Walnut Creek Country Club is a Private, 27 hole golf facility located in South Lyon, Michigan. The facility has three 9-hole courses/segments. They are The North 9, The South 9, and The West 9. They can be combined to form three different 18-hole combinations.

The present day course, originally Godwin Glen Golf Club, was first opened for play in 1972. The course(s) were designed by the father son team of Bruce Matthews and Jerry Matthews.

Walnut Creek Country Club traces it’s beginning to 1955, when it opened as the Farmington Country Club at the corner of Haggerty and Twelve Mile Roads. The Farmington Country Club hosted the Michigan PGA Championship in 1961 and the Michigan Open in 1961 and 1962.

By 1987, the existing 133 acre property was sold off in parcels and the Club purchased its current location, Godwin Glen, a 27-hole golf course in the Charter Township of Lyon. By the end of the year, the club was renamed to Walnut Creek Country Club.

Each of the 9-hole courses have a distinct personality and presents different challenges.

The North is the longest of the three nines and has a water hazard or out-of-bounds on every hole.

The West is the shortest nine, but has some of the most challenging greens with various undulations.

The South has two of the newest holes which debuted in 2013, giving it a unique feel with three par 3’s, three par 4’s and three par 5’s.
