Giants Ridge Golf & Ski Resort, is a Resort, 36 hole golf facility located in Biwabik, Minnesota. The facility has two 18-hole golf courses. They are The Quarry at Giant Ridge and The Legend at Giants Ridge.
The Quarry is built on the site of a former sand quarry and iron ore mine and dramatically raised tees and hazards provide dramatic Iron Range vistas.
The Quarry golf course first opened for play in 2003. The par-72 course was designed by Jeffrey D. Brauer.
The Quarry course at the Giants Ridge plays to a maximum of 7,201 yards for a course rating of 75.6 and a slope rating of 146. A recent (2008) golf review by Ron Whitten of Golf Digest cited The Quarry as "The Best Golf Course of the 21st Century."
Course architect Jeff Brauer said of The Quarry, "It's still too early too judge for sure, but the Quarry at Giants Ridge may eventually be judged as my finest and unique course. This a tribute to the unique site, a mixture of virgin land, iron ore open pit mine, and sand quarry, that gives the course distinct character and its name. You might say it's the "most unnatural" course I have ever designed because most of the land has been scarred into a land of great charm and character by these previous industrial operations. I am as excited by this course as any other I have designed, and most who tour the construction site seems to agree."
