Detailed description

Westborough Country Club is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Saint Louis, Missouri.

The golf course dates to 1908. The golf course was originally designed by Tom Bendelow.

Today's Westborough stands on the site once occupied by Westwood Country Club, which had opened in this location in 1908. In 1928, Walter Pfeiffer bought the course and turned it into a public facility. Parcels of the original plot were sold to the Webster Groves School District and the Webster Groves Christian Church in the late forties in order to keep the Club financially solvent. It was then that the entrance to the Club was moved from Sappington Road (behind #1 green) to its present day Berry Road location. In 1948, a small group of Westborough's founding Members purchased the Club, using their own business collateral. The Club was established in 1948. Westborough Country Club is a member owned and family oriented private country club located in the heart of Saint Louis.

In the early 90's, Gary Kern was called upon to renovate and much of the golf course, redesigning bunkers, rerouting fairways and adding the predominant mounding throughout the golf course that has become Westborough's character and trademark. No green, fairway or bunker was left untouched. The course was again renovated in 2008, this time by Roger Null.

Blue tees: par-68, 5,652 yards

White tees: par-68, 5,313 yards

Red tees: par-68, 4,892 yards

Westborough is short by modern standards, but is a difficult par-68 course. Due to its incredibly tight layout, distance gives way to accuracy as the necessary prerequisite to a good score. The narrow par 3's accept nothing but the perfect shot. The demanding par 4's necessitate accurate drives and allow for little error on the approach. The par 5 competes with the super long 5-pars of the newer courses, requiring a variety of well-placed shots to reach home in regulation.

Westborough has had the pleasure of hosting many great golfers including Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, and Bing Crosby, among others.
