Detailed description

Wild Horse Golf Course is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Gothenburg , Nebraska. Gothenburg, Nebraska is located in the heart of Nebraska just off of Interstate 80 at mile marker 211. Two hundred and ninety interstate miles east of Denver, Colorado and one hundred and eighty miles west of Lincoln, Nebraska. The golf course itself is located 1 mile north of Gothenburg on Hwy 47 and then west 1 1/2 miles.

Wild Horse Golf Course first opened for play in 1998. The course was designed by Dan Proctor and Dave Axland.

South-central Nebraska is a long way from anywhere, but it's worth the trail ride to get to Wild Horse. This "Carnoustie of the Corn Belt" tumbles through windswept, treeless terrain, where half the battle is keeping the ball from bounding into links-like bunkers and tall native grasses. So complete is the test offered that Wild Horse has been described as the public version of nearby Sand Hills. That comes as no surprise: course architects Dave Proctor and Dave Axland were instrumental in helping Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw create that celebrated course.

Wild Horse Golf Course is a combination of Scottish/Irish links-styles. It is set on 300 acres of beautiful rolling hills on the edge of the Sand Hills. The course is lined throughout with unplayable rough that ranges between one and two-feet tall. The fairways are medium width and open, while the greens average 6,000-square feet in size, are fast and are a mixture between flat and undulating. This course has many sand bunkers and natural blowouts.

The golf course at Wild Horse Golf Club plays to 6,805 yards. Par for the couse is 72. The course rating is 73.0 with a slope rating of 125.

Wild Horse Golf Course was ranked #1 on the list of 50 best courses under $50.
