Detailed description

Lawrence Yacht and Country Club is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Lawrence, New York.

In 1924, a private 18-hole golf course designed by Devereaux Emmet opened as the Lawrence Country Club. The property was foreclosure during the Depression. The property was purchased by the city which operated the course as a public facility until 1960.

In 1960, the course was closed to daily greens fee play and designated as a “self-sustaining improvement“ under New York State Law supported principally by annual membership fees.  The city appointed a Park Commission to operate the facility as the “Lawrence Village Country Club”

A re-design of the golf course, which left all but one hole unchanged, was completed in 1969. The re-design was the work of golf architect, Joe Finger.

Par for the course is 70. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,324 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,290 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 15, a par-5 that plays to 516 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 14, a par-3 that plays to 127 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 3, a 453-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Lawrence Yacht and Country Club Golf Course is # 14, the 127 yard par-3.

The entire facility, which includes a 136 slip marina on Bannister Creek, in addition to the golf course and tennis courts, as well as the main Club House and separate tennis and marina clubhouses, is governed by the Village’s Park Commission.
