Shelridge Country Club
Shelridge Country Club first opened for play in 1959 as a 9-hole layout. The course was built by a local contractor with input by local golfers.
In the 1980's a "drifter from Texas" with a tractor rolled into town. He has been described as a sculpter with a backhoe. He negotiated a price of $50,000 cash and went to work buiding the back nine, complete with an irragation system. His first name was Horace and last name was Smith To this day, club members still talk about ole Horace from Texas with fond memories.
And, importantly, they think he did a beautiful job when he turned their fine nine existing holes into a really fine 18 hole course.
Shelridge Country Club is a well-maintained course has fast greens. The fairways are manicured to have a checkerboard look. Water hazards (seven ponds) come into play on nine holes.
Shelridge Country Club plays to a par-72 and maximum distance of 6,577 yards. The course rating is 71.5 and the slope rating is 122.
