Detailed description

Sebonack Golf Club is a private 18-hole golf course located in Southampton, New York.

The Sebonack Golf Club Golf Course opened for play in 2006. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak.

Sebonack Golf Club is located adjacent to both the National Golf Links of America and Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, NY. Sebonack is located nearer to Peconic Bay than Shinnecock, immediately to the west of The National. The price of entry into Sebonack is not for the financially challenged. There is a $650,000 initiation fee (as of 2006) and membership is by invitation only. Similar to The National Golf Links, Sebonack has "founding" members. These ten gentlemen shelled out $1 million each for the privilege and can nominate and sponsor new members.

Sebonack features holes that offer panoramic views of Long Island's Great Peconic Bay and Cold Spring Pond. The visual impact of the water vistas competes for the golfer's eye with the rolling fairways, expansive bunkers and waste dunes, and undulating greens that present tricky swales and burrows. Meant to look as if manicured by time, Sebonack appears to have fashioned itself from the wild terrain.

Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak, two designers with dramatically different styles, have used the natural contours and features of the land to create a unique look. Doak, who lets the contours of the land dictate his designs, and Nicklaus, who builds manicured courses to challenge the best golfers, brought together two opposing philosophies. The result is that Sebonack looks quite different from its illustrious neighbors and provides a strong golfing challenge for players of all calibers.
