Detailed description

Thousand Islands Country Club is a Public, 36 hole golf facility located in Wellesley Island, New York. This facility is located on an island of the St Lawrence River and offers two eighteen hole courses, the Olde Course and the Lake Course.

The Old Course original 9 holes were built in 1894 by George Boldt the millionaire proprietor of the world famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. In 1924, prominent course designer Seth Raynor was retained to expand the course to its present 18 holes.

The Old Course is a links-style course that was built on rolling hills. Hole #11, a 330-yard, par 4, features an elevated tee box, which overlooks the inland waterway to Canada. Water hazards, which include a number of ponds as well as part of the St. Lawrence River, come into play on at least eight holes.

The Old Course at the Thousand Islands Country Club plays to a par-72 and measures 6,302 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 69.2 with a slope rating of 118.

The Lake Course, a slightly shorter and more "golfer friendly" layout is perfect for those who want a great day on the links amid the peaceful serenity of beautiful Wellesley Island.

The Lake Course, which opened in 1989, is a fairly short, but very challenging design. It was designed by the develper/builder, Jack webb. It was formerly known as The Lake of the Isles Golf Course. There are sixteen ponds that come into play on sixteen holes. The greens are tea cup-shaped and fast, while the fairways are cut tight and generally tree lined.

Legend has it that George Boldt's wife, Louise, enjoyed being rowed through the islands in one of the estate’s St. Lawrence rowing skiffs. To accommodate her and keep her safe from possible foul weather on the river, Boldt installed a maze of protected gondola canals on the Boldt's Wellesley Island properties. The Lake Course winds its way through Boldt Castle's historic gondola canals.

The Lake Course at the Thousand Islands Country Club plays to a par-70 and measures 5,005 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 70.0 with a slope rating of 113.
