The South Course ____________________
Carmel Country Club, The South Course opened in 1962. The course was designed by Ellis Maple. The South Course redesign was done by Rees Jones and was completed in April 2011.
Carmel's South Course' original designer, Ellis Maples created a good, solid layout that Rees Jones has renovated to provide more options for golfers. A number of trees have been removed, the fairways have been modified, the greens have shifted creating a large, wide course and many other changes have been made. The old mounding that framed the Maples design is now gone as well. Some hardwoods remain; however the annoying mulch and pine straw that dotted many of the fairways has been removed completely. The first hole and the last hole are completely new as are the 220 yard par 3 fifth hole and the sixth hole as well which features a daunting dogleg right par-4. Jones matched this intimidating hole with a short tee as well to provide some different vantage points and options. The old, uphill ninth hole has also been re-invented with a new, dramatic look featuring new bunkering. Several other holes were modified as part of the renovation project including the last hole which ends alongside the 18th hole on the North Course at Carmel Country Club.
Carmel Country Club, The South Course is a par-72 layout that measures 7,012 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 74.1 with a slope rating of 131.
The North Course ____________________
Carmel Country Club, The North Course is the older of the two courses. The North Course opened in 1950. The course was designed by George W. Cobb. The course was redesisigned by Tom Jackson.
The North Course, originally designed by George Cobb and redesigned by Tom Jackson, has an undulating composition that challenges a player and reveals the risk-taker in all of us. Numerous updates and improvements have been made to the North Course in the past few years with the creation of new bunkers, lengthening of holes and newly installed stone walls. The North Course was conceived to test all areas of a player's game and still allow for fun and fellowship no matter what your handicap.
Carmel Country Club, The North Course is a par-72 layout that measures 6,701 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 72.2 with a slope rating of 132.
