The Old North State Club Golf Course opened for play in July of 1992. The course was designed by Tom Fazio.
The Old North State course is challenging, exciting, demanding, and offers a lot of breathtaking scenery. The plush fairways are wide open, and the greens are fast and large. The course is situated alongside Badin Lake which comes into play on three holes. The signature hole is #18, a 568-yard, par 5, where you are tempted to hit a tee shot over the corner of the dogleg fairway in hopes of getting a birdie.
Shortly after its' 1992 opening, Old North quickly gained a reputation with golfers from across the nation and that year was awarded the #2 spot in Golf Digest's ranking of best new private courses in America. For 13 consecutive years from 1997-2009, the North Carolina Golf Panel has ranked the Old North State Club as the second best course in the state of North Carolina, right behind famed Pinehurst Number 2. The NC Golf Panel is made up of a pre-eminent list of North Carolina golf experts, including golf writers, officials, coaches, course owners,
