Greene Country Club is a Private 18 hole golf course located in Fairborn, Ohio. The course name change to Gem City Golf Course in March 2014, just months before its closing in July 2014.
The 156-acre, 7,000-yard par 72 golf course first opened for play in 1960. The course was designed by William Diddel.
The length of this course alone will challenge any level of golfer. The tree-lined fairways were built on rolling hills and have some sand bunkers. Water hazards come into play on several holes. The greens are large and have medium speed.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,029 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,711 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 4, a par-5 that plays to 599 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 11, a par-3 that plays to 167 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 8, a 469 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 11, a 167 yard par-3.
The club had changed hands multiple times during the previous twenty years.
It was owned by the Meyer family from 2005 to 2011, then sold to an investment group made up of about 30 club members. They reportedly "sold" the course in March 2014 to Zachary Fink who began operating the course under the name Gem City Golf Club..
In March 2014, Zachary Fink told the Dayton Business Journal that he was the new owner of the club. Even though the course reportedly sold 100 memberships between March 2014 and July 2014, The course shut down / closed in mid-July 2014.
Fink began running the business in March, and the country club changed its name from Greene Country Club to Gem City the same month. He signed an agreement to buy the club from 31 investors, but told the Daily News the deal was never consummated,
