Gulf Mills Golf Club is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in King Of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
Gulph Mills Golf Club dates to its establishment in 1916. However, the course, designed by Donald Ross, was not officially open until May 19, 1919. Perry Maxwell changed seven holes during the 1930s, Subsequently, a number of architects have done renovations.
In his book, The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak says. "I've simplified the [architect] credits for this course, everyone from Flynn to Bill Gordon to Robert Trent Jones tinkered with it at some point, but Gil Hanse has thankfully sorted through the hodgepodge of styles and restored the best of Ross' and Maxwell's work." The first 7 holes are Donald Ross, the next 7 holes are from Perry Maxwell before returning to Donald Ross for the last 4 holes.
Some claim that the first 3 holes, all of them challenging par-4s comprise the most difficult start in the area.
#3 which plays around 475 yards from the back tees down towards a diagonal creek cutting across the fairway with a large bunker 70 yards from the green. The fairway is extremely sloped the green is.
#4 is a makable, short par 3 hole over a quarry.
#17 is another great par-3 with its delightful punchbowl green which is always fun.
#18 will fool you. It's a short par-5 measuring only 464-yards from the back tees. You start with a demanding drive up and (hopefully) over a plateau, the fairway then slopes downwards before sharply presenting the steep climb up to the pitched elevated green. Par is not a given and birdies are rare.
