Detailed description

Allegheny Country Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Sewickley, Pennsylvania

Allegheny Country Club had its origin in 1895, but not at its present location. At California and Brighton Avenues on Pittsburgh’s North Side, the first site of the club, a 6-hole golf course as well as a clubhouse were constructed. The Club soon outgrew its space.

A 150 acre site off Blackburn Road, then known as the Dairy Farm or McKean Tract, was purchased. The land was cleared and a clubhouse, was built. A golf course, tennis courts, and a road were constructed and the property generally improved. In May 1902, the New Allegheny Country Club opened for play. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow. After Robert Fowler redesigned three holes in 1922, Donald Ross redesigned the entire course in 1923, followed by Ed Seay in 1975.

The golf course has changed quite a bit since it was designed by Donald Ross. According to reliable information, there are thirty-two abandoned greens on the property. Work to restore this Donald Ross' classic design is underway and being managed by golf arcitect Gil Hanse.

Allegheny Country Club plays to a par-70 and a maximum distance of 6,409 yards. The course rating is 70.8 with slope rating of 130.
