The course first opened for play in 2009. The course architect was David Pfaff.

Watch out for # 10 a 578-yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Royal Isabel Golf Course is # 4, the 166 yard par-3.
The Links at Royal Isabela extend dramatically along cliffs 200 feet above the ocean and drop to areas of natural sand dunes along the Atlantic.
#s 1-10 are draped on a gentle mountainside and offer a links-style feel. Many tee shots are blind but you hit to generous fairways. The greens are small (1 shared green).
#s 11-17 provide amazing views of the bluffs overlooking the Atlantic/Gulf of Mexico. There are four forced carries over these six holes, but they are very playable. # 17 is a par-3 playing into a strong wind to a small kidney-shaped green.
