Detailed description

Charleston National Country Club, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Charleston National first opened for play in 1989. The course was designed by Rees Jones. The course and amenities were designed to be an exclusive private country club. The course was situated beautifully along the intercoastal waterway, through natural wetlands and lagoons and through pine and oak forests.

Shortly after the opening. in September 1989, Hurricane Hugo passed over Charleston National and did considerable damage. The course was closed for renovation that took over a year. Charleston National reopened in 1991 as a semi-private course available for public play.

Charleston National is located less than 10 from Charleston. The course plays to 6,507 yards from the back for a course rating of 71.4 and a slope rating of 129. Par for the course is 72.

Reviews

This course has been reviewed 5 time

I play this course at least 5 times every summer on vacation, going on 15+ years now. Course is always in great shape, with the exception of the bunkers. The sand traps are so bad, the local rule is lift your ball, rake the trap, and then replace the ball. Best advice is just don't hit your ball in the sand! Course is difficult as the swamp comes into play on 16 of the 18 holes. The course was better before they reversed the nines (forcing you to pass the clubhouse at mid-round) and making you end the round on a par 3. They should change things back they way it was originally designed.
