Moody Gardens Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Galveston, Texas.
Moody Gardens Golf Course, was previously named Galveston Municipal Golf Course. Galveston Municipal Golf Course the site of the current Moody Gardens Golf Course, first opened for play in 1976. The course was redesignd in 1989 by Carlton Gibson. The redesign was done ata a cost of $1.3 million.
Moody Gardens Golf Course, formerly Galveston Municipal Golf Course, underwent a total renovation / redesign in 2008. This time at a cost of $16 million. The course renovation was undertaken by Jacobsen Hardy Golf Course Design (PGA Tour professionals Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy). They have created a design that keeps the best historical features of the layout while significantly improving certain holes and overall course flow.
The renovation includes new turf grass, green complexes, elevations, irrigation, drainage, cart paths, greens and a full clubhouse renovation.
The course is expected to rank as one of the best public courses in Texas and rivals three of the state’s best municipal venues, Memorial Park in Houston, Tenison Highlands in Dallas and Cottonwood Creek in Waco. Measuring 6,900 yards from the back tees, the par-72 golf course is designed to be player-friendly, with 5 sets of tees to accommodate all playing ability.
