Gulf Winds Golf Course opened in 1955 as a 6-hole course. The course expanded to 12 holes and finally to 18 holes in 1985. The military personnel, some of whom maintain the course in exchange for green fees, keep this simple track in excellent condition. The course has forgiving, wide-open fairways-if your approaches are accurate into the small greens, a two-putt should not be exceeded. Two ponds and a creek impact play on six holes.
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6410 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4874 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 545 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 5, a par-3 that plays to 170 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 2, a 385 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 9, a 185 yard par-3. Hole 18 is a good finisher, playing 435 yards into the wind with out-of-bounds looming left.
