Detailed description

Wildcat Golf Course, previously named Meadowbrook Country Club, is a public, 9 hole golf course located in Palestine, Texas.

The course first opened for play in 1921. It closed in 2009. But was resurrected and reopened in 2015.

This shot placement course has a creek that comes into play on six holes The fairways are lined with pine trees and the greens are small and elevated.

Meadowbrook was the only golf course in Palestine. The course had been the practice site for the Palestine High School golf team, which won state championships in 2005 and 2006. After its closure in 2009, the team had to practice on the high school lawn, baseball field and track, or travel 10 miles to a golf course in Elkhart.

The course had been purchased by Grace United Methodist Church in 2013. They use the clubhouse as a meeting hall. They offered the district a 30-year lease for the golf course at a dollar a year.

Since then, the course has been learning lab for Palestine High School students in skills such as landscaping, business management, welding and hospitality. Their hard work and monetary donations have allowed the course to reopen.

Palestine High School students and staff revitalized the property to use as a working classroom while open to the public.

The Wildcat Golf Course is rare in that it will be run by high school students. It is believed to be the second such course in Texas after the La Joya-ISD run Howling Trails Golf Course in the Rio Grande Valley opened in April 2014.

Approximately 20 Palestine students will work the course, earning course credit during the year and an opportunity for paid positions in the summer for long-time program participants.
