The Royal Virginian Golf Course is an 18-hole public golf course located just a few miles off of I-64 between Charlottesville and Richmond in Louisa, Virginia.
The Course opened in 1993. The course architect was Algie M. Pulley, Jr.
#1 is a reachable par 5 that moves left and is a good risk/reward hole. It is reachable but on your the shot to the green you may have to avoid a couple of well-placed trees and a creek that bisects across the front of the green.
#2 has some slope to the fairway and mounding around the green which adds some intrigue to the course.
#4 is a dogleg left par 4 with a fairway that angles. A few other holes also have this angled fairway design adding a nice challenge. Instead of hitting up the fairway one is tempted to hit toward the dogleg which narrows the landing area but if done correctly, shortens the distance to the green.
The course has rolling hills and a bit of elevation as evidenced on the #6 and #7 which can be difficult off the tee trying to get the right distance into the green.
#11 - #13 are the holes to look for birdies.
#s11 and 12 are 504-yards and 542-yards par 5s.
#13 is a short, 322-yard par 4 that plays downhill. It is a good risk/reward hole. If someone is driving they can hit the slope and roll near the green.
The layout is solid with some excellent challenges.
