The original Lee Park Golf Course was designed by Fred Findlay (front nine) and Algie Pulley (back nine) and was just over 6,000 yards from the back tees. The course was leased and operated by a private company and closed following major damage caused by Hurricane Isabel in 2003. The City purchased the acreage and began the renovation planning process. The golf course had been closed since 2003. Previously, the course was 6,037 yards; the newly redesigned course is 663 yards longer. The "new" course was designed by Tom Clark.
