Raven Golf Club At Snowshoe Resort, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Snowshoe, West Virginia.
Raven Golf Club At Snowshoe Resort first opened for play in 1993. The course was designed by Gary Player.
The Raven Golf Club, previously known as the Hawthorne Valley at Snowshoe, is nestled in the scenic hills of Pocahontas County, WV. The course was designed with the average golfer in mind. The terrain is very hilly and requires many uphill shots. Gary Player used a lot of the natural terrain while designing this course.
The front nine plays through hardwoods and around several lakes, and then climbs into higher elevations for the back nine, with several cliff-side tee boxes. Some of the greens overlook the entire mountain side, while others are also on top of a cliff. The fairways are tight, including eleven that are tree lined, so there is a real need for accuracy. Water hazards (three ponds and a creek) come into play on eight holes. The green on hole #2 is almost completely surrounded by a creek. The #14 and #18 holes have creeks down the middle of their fairways.
The course is part of the Snowshoe Mountain Resort.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 7,045 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,363 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 5, a par-5 that plays to 611 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 127 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 11, a 445 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 3, a 127 yard par-3.
