Hillcrest Golf & Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Altoona, Wisconsin.
Hillcrest Golf & Country Club first opened for play in 1926. The course was designed by Glenn Bartlet.
Hillcrest Golf & Country Club played to a par of 72 and a maximum distance of 6,496.
Hillcrest closed after the 2012 season. The course sold in late 2012.
President Steve Danielson said the club began accumulating more debt around 2000 when it built a new clubhouse and pro shop. The course lost money eight of the last nine years of operations. Hillcrest's membership declined from 300 to about 90 and was compelled to open for public play in 2011 to remain solvent.
Tax records show the site was valued at $3.1 million. The club had owed $2.1 million to Charter Bank of Eau Claire, which took over the property in 2012.
The new owner, Jim Rooney, of Rooney Properties and Heartland Homes & Development of the Eau Claire area, announced plans to develop the entire 161-acre site. The planned $119.2 million development would include single- and multi-family homes, commercial space and park space.
