Detailed description

Westin Mission Hills Resort, is a Resort, 36 hole golf facility located in Rancho Mirage, California. The facility has two 18-hole golf courses, The Pete Dye Course and the North Course.

The Westin Mission Hills Resort North Course is a Gary Player Signature course. The course first opened for play in 1991. The course was designed by Gary Player.

The course is one the finest courses in Palm Springs. It has hosted countless tournaments including the 1992 Senior PGA Tour Qualifying Finals. At just over 7,000 yards from the tips and 4 sets of tees, the Gary Player Signature Course sets up nicely for all golfers. The Gary Player designed course is longer and more forgiving than the Pete Dye Resort Course at Westin Mission Hills Resort.

This course also has several spectacular scenic views. The course features twenty acres of lakes, four waterfalls, and over 6,000 tons of natural and artificial rock used to make the water hazards, and 2,500 trees, Oleanders and native plants.

The Mission Hills North Course (Gary Player Signature course) has proved to be a popular one with both public and resort golfers. It is used as an alternative to the Pete Dye Course and is generally easier for the average golfer to play.

Player's design makes extensive use of water, with lakes coming into play on 10 holes.

Hole #11 is a par-5, water is reachable on all three shots before reaching the green.Three of the course's par-4s - the fifth, eighth and 12th - all feature water in some way. The 11th is the toughest of the par-5s, though a golfer must also be careful on the third hole - which also has a lake in the fairway - and the 17th, with a lake near the green. Both nines end with demanding par-4s with water. The 18th requires a good drive over a lake to a fairway that doglegs to the right.

The Par-72 Westin Mission Hills Resort North Course plays to a maximum distance of 7,062 yards for a course rating of 73.9 and a slope rating of 134.

Tournament tees: 7,062 yards, course rating 73.9, slope rating 134.

Championship tees: 6,643 yards, course rating 71.3, slope rating 124.

Men's tees: 6,044 yards, course rating 68.0, slope rating 114.

Ladies tees: 4,907 yards, course rating 68.0, slope rating 118.

This is a fair course for the average golfer. Equally fair for my wife who doesn't drive the ball long off the tee. I've played her half a dozen times plus and I will continue to come back.

Ladies slope from red tees at 122 was very playable. Enjoyed the outing and played there again the next day. Unfortunately it got quite hot, would be more fun earlier in the year.

The fairways and greens were in good shape. What the course failed to mention was everything outside the fairways and greens were dead. They have killed off everthing due to grass disease and therefore bunkers blended with the dead grass EVERYWHERE. Almost felt as though we were playing a desert course. Don't miss the fairway by even a foot because you either won't find your ball or will be hitting from the dead zone. Coming from out of town, we should have been told about the conditions. Instead, StandByGolf recommended this course.

Botht the Pete Dye and Gary Player courses at the Westin Mission Hills resort are very good courses and will challenge anyone. The pro staff, cart barn, club house and food/beverage staff are fantastic and treat eveyone as if they are the owners! I would recommend playing either of these two courses before other in this range!
