Tallgrass Country Club

Tallgrass Country Club is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Wichita, Kansas.

Arthur Hills designed the Tallgrass golf course. The course first opened for play in 1981.

As one of the top courses in Kansas, the 6,758-yard par 71 course contains features that challenge golfers of all abilities. Native grass areas blend with various terrain, which allows players to experience any golf shot. Various tee placements give golfers a test from the championship tees or for a relaxing round from the member tees at 6,195-yards.

Hole # 1, 417 Yards, Par 4, Sets the stage. You tee from an elevated ground to a broad fairway bordered on the right by the native Wichita terrain... kept in its natural state... The hole plays as a dogleg right to a flattish green set next to a small stream and lowland.

Hole # 2, 381 Yards, Par 4. One of the most exciting and challenging short Par 4's you will ever play, only 334 Yards from the middle tee. This dogleg left crosses the creek twice. This hole requires accuracy rather than power.

Hole # 3, 465 Yards, Par 4. Now that you are loosened up make a couple of good swings here. A long Par 4 requires two strong shots to a large putting surface. Beware of the large body of water to the right!

Hole # 4, 519 Yards, Par 5. And now, for a challenging par 5, water on the right off the tee, trees down the entire left side, usually playing into a head-wind, and a monster bunker before the green make this an excellent Par 5.

Hole # 5, 191 Yards, Par 3. This medium-long Par 3 plays downhill to a fascinating green, cleverly contoured to accept only the most skillfully thought out shot. The creek meanders near the left side of this challenging green.

Hole # 6, 420 Yards, Par 4. One of the five relatively long Par 4's on the course (the others are 3, 16, and 18), this uphill slight dogleg left requires power and placement from the tee. The green is large enough. However, many players will be pitching from an undulating lie near the green.

Hole # 7, 202 Yards, Par 3. A Par 3 looking down at the green next to a pond. A simple enough hole..., provided you can overcome the prevailing wind and keep your shot on line.

Hole # 8, 372 Yards, Par 4. Medium length and somewhat open off the tee, but you must then play a precise shot to a small shallow green over a boggy, marsh-like area immediately in front of the green.

Hole # 9, 420 Yards, Par 4. Originally a Par 5, it's all or nothing with this tee shot... dogleg left with water on the left. A great tee shot over the corner can cut your shot into the green or head right, and you're looking at a long approach into an elevated challenging green surrounded by native grass.

Hole # 10, 535 Yards, Par 5 is a beautiful start to the second nine with its wandering fairway bunker and twisting creek, which crosses in front of the green. Again the premium is on planning your strategy for play of the hole. There are several options. You may play up the left side and to the green or follow the longer route first right, then left. Cup placement makes a big difference here as there is an elevated tier back right which requires pinpoint accuracy.

Hole # 11, 130 Yards, Par 3. The wise player will use enough club as it's plain to see. It's all carry to this uniquely shaped green... shallow and angular. A pretty hole with its backdrop of mature trees.

Hole # 12, 405 Yards, Par 4. A dramatic, demanding Par 4. The tee shot is hit either to the brink of the lake right or left which makes it a slight dogleg right. Then a skillful shot is required to the green set on a promontory that breaks out from the lake edge. This is one of the most exciting, beautiful, and popular holes on the course.

Hole # 13, 407 Yards, Par 4. A solid, classic Par 4 uphill all the way to the green. It plays as straightforward as it looks. You can see all of the hazards and you can choose your own route.

Hole # 14, 522 Yards, Par 5. The challenge here is the second shot as a series of bunkers and bumps break across the fairway. Laying up will give you a shot into a slightly elevated large green with scoring opportunities.

Hole # 15, 359 Yards, Par 4. A short Par 4 can be a test. This hole is a good example. While the tee shot on this dogleg left is moderately tight, the shot to this tiny elevated green surrounded by bunkers is enough to make you nervous even if you do have the best short iron game in your foursome.

Hole # 16, 454 Yards, Par 4. Pull out your big game again because you will need it here. When you play a good shot to this green, you will see it land and roll to a stop. You look down on this broad green bordered on the right by a deep native-covered ravine and on the left by high hillocks.

Hole # 17, 156 Yards, Par 3. The "barn" hole. The old barn provides the backdrop for this picturesque par 3. The green lies across the lowland, slightly below the tee elevation. A natural amphitheater surrounds the putting surface to create a perfect setting for tournament days. The hole plays to middle iron length and requires accuracy.

Hole # 18, 403 Yards, Par 4. A long, strong Par 4 back to the clubhouse. There are two routes... up the right and across the lake... or around from the left and overland to the green. You must make a decision on the tee. A group of trees split the fairway and require you either slightly draw or fade your second shot. The green rests next to the lake and is framed on the left by a grassy hillside and bunkers. Remember the green slopes slightly towards the lake. Your best effort here will make your day a success.
