Hancock Park Golf Course first opened for play in 1899. The course was designed by Lewis Hancock. What does this municipal course have in common with the prestigious Austin Country Club? The answer, Hancock Park Golf Course was the first site/the first course of the Austin Country Club; the original course had sand greens and 18 holes.

Hancock Golf Course is the oldest golf course in the state of Texas. Located in the heart of Austin, the course is a challenging layout with numerous carries up and down hills and over Waller Creek, the creek that winds through the property. Hancock Golf Course is relatively short by modern standards, featuring small, well-manicured greens that are typical of the era in which it was built.

The noted golf instructor, Harvey Penick, started his professional career at this location and remained with the Austin Country Club for over 70 years.
