Brian graduated from California Polytechnic University (CalPoly), San Luis Obispo, California in 1982 with a degree in Architecture and Environmental Design.
From 1984 to 1992 he worked for Landmark Design Company alongside golf course designer Pete Dye. While there, one of his co-workers was his future design partner, Lee Schmidt.
In 1997, he and Schmidt formed Schmidt-Curley Design, working primarily in the southwest United States.
Schmidt-Curley have found great acceptance in the Asian market with a strong emphasis on China. They are considered leaders of the China golf course development movement.
Schmidt-Curley designed the 10 courses at Mission Hills Haikou, "World"s Largest Golf Club", which opened in 2010 and is located one hour north of Hong Kong. The resort's Lava Fields Course and Blackstone Course have received high praise on both the local and International level.
