Bo has been a member of the PGA of America since 2000 and has been teaching golf to beginners, seasoned players, women, juniors, and men since 1997. Early in his career, he studied under Sea Pines instructors and Carolinas PGA Section legends, Rick Barry and Skip Malek, Director of Instruction at Sea Pines Resort. Later, Bo has learned from Mike Malaska the full swing and Stan Utley and James Siekmann with short game theories. However, Bo has found his greatest successes by studying the writings of classic instructors such as (but not limited to) Alex Morrison, Tommy Armour, Ernest Jones, Bobby Jones, and Stewart Maiden and applying their knowledge to today’s golfer. His premise for looking into the history to better the student’s golfing future is simple: everyone is unique in physical abilities, however, the modern golf swing utilized by the professionals on tour needs a minimum amount of strength, flexibility, and speeds not everyone can achieve. The principles of the golfing past are readily attainable by the average player. Bo not only teaches these classic principles; he also uses them himself. As a player, Bo has finished in the top 10 in the field on several occasions in the World Hickory Championship (Scotland) and the United States Hickory Open, as well as in numerous regional hickory championships. Bo also represented the United States on a 16-player team in the Lionel Freedman Matches, an international Ryder Cup-styled event for hickory golfers, played in Milan, Italy in 2018. Bo firmly believes that fun should be the foremost of priorities when it comes to teaching everyone, especially children. Once the game lacks fun, children will lose interest and focus. “When it’s fun, it is easier to teach the FUNdamentals.”
