Bredemus, formerly of New York moved to San Antonio in 1919 to teach school. He was a regular at the Brackenridge Park Golf Course before eventually becoming an assistant pro. His talent for architecture eventually outshined his playing talent and he helped designed dozens of courses across Texas. Possibly the most well-known of the designs he assisted with is the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
Jim Bredemus is considered one of the great legends of Texas golf. He was the first resident golf course architect. In 1922 he co-founded the Texas Professional Golf Associations. He was also primarily responsible for bringing to the Southwest its first National PGA Championship at Cedar Crest Country Club, Dallas in 1927.
